Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Evanston fits six lakefront beaches, a Big Ten campus, and three Metra stations into 7.8 square miles, so the right neighborhood mostly comes down to which of those you want to reach on foot. These areas draw the most renters:

Downtown Evanston
The blocks around Davis Street and Fountain Square hold the city's densest run of restaurants, shops, and transit, including the station where the Metra Union Pacific North line and the CTA Purple Line stop within a block of each other. Maple Grove sits inside this district at Maple Avenue and Grove Street, with the McGaw YMCA directly across the street and Walk Score rating the address 97 out of 100.

Main-Dempster Mile
This stretch along Main Street and Dempster Street in south Evanston runs quieter and more arts-leaning than downtown, anchored by independent storefronts and the Evanston SPACE music venue on Chicago Avenue. Trader Joe's handles the grocery run at 1211 Chicago Avenue. Main Street has both a Metra station and a CTA Purple Line stop, so the commute stays intact.

Central Street
The north-end corridor near Central Street station reads closer to a small town, with specialty retailers and easy access to the Evanston Art Center and the Grosse Point Lighthouse on the lakefront. Housing here leans toward older single-family stock and low-rise buildings. Central Street station puts Ogilvie Transportation Center within one Metra ride.

Evanston Ridge Historic District
This National Register district runs from Main Street north to Emerson Street along the glacial ridge that carried Evanston's earliest settlement in the 1830s. Its 397 contributing structures sit on streets thick with mature trees, and its eastern edge follows Maple Avenue. Davis Street and Main Street stations both fall within about a mile.

Evanston sits directly north of Chicago with Lake Michigan along its eastern edge, and at 7.8 square miles it manages to hold a Big Ten campus, six lakefront beaches, and a working downtown inside a footprint you can cross on foot. Livability.com ranked the city 13th on its 2026 Top 100 Best Places to Live. Four things account for most of that:

A Metra Line and a CTA Line on the Same Block
Davis Street station carries the Metra Union Pacific North line south to Ogilvie Transportation Center and north toward Kenosha, Wisconsin, and the CTA Purple Line stops at the same station. CTA routes 93, 201, and 205 plus Pace routes 208, 213, and 250 connect there as well. From Maple Grove, that station is a six-minute walk, and O'Hare International is roughly a 28-minute drive.

Six Lakefront Beaches and 76 Parks in 7.8 Square Miles
Evanston is home to six lakefront beaches, five of them city-run, and the Parks department maintains 76 parks and 50 playgrounds across more than 300 acres. Clark Street Beach, the closest beach to downtown, is under a mile from the building. Merrick Rose Garden is closer still, three minutes west.

Rotary International's World Headquarters
Rotary International has run its world headquarters from Evanston since 1954 and from One Rotary Center on Sherman Avenue since 1987, with a staff of more than 700. The consulting firm ZS keeps its global headquarters in the same 18-story building. Both are roughly three minutes from Maple Grove's front door.

A Campus Town That Also Has Its Own Downtown
Northwestern University has taught on its 240-acre Evanston campus since classes began in 1855, and the Block Museum of Art on Arts Circle Drive is free and open to the public. Downtown runs on its own economy though, with Northlight Theatre's new 287-seat house on Church Street, the Evanston Public Library on Orrington Avenue, and a Saturday farmers market at University Place and Oak Avenue from May through November.

From Maple Grove, downtown Evanston's restaurants, theaters, and shops all fall inside a quarter mile, and Lake Michigan is 0.7 miles east. Residents regularly head to:

  • Clark Street Beach
  • Dawes Park
  • Merrick Rose Garden
  • Fountain Square
  • Northlight Theatre
  • Robert Crown Community Center
  • Evanston SPACE
  • Block Museum of Art
  • Grosse Point Lighthouse
  • Ladd Arboretum
  • Downtown Evanston Farmers Market
  • Northwestern Sailing Center

The farthest of these, Grosse Point Lighthouse, is 1.4 miles up the lakefront; most of the rest sit inside a mile of the front door.

Maple Grove sits about 12 miles north of the Chicago Loop, and the Davis Street station six minutes away carries both the Metra Union Pacific North line into Ogilvie Transportation Center and the CTA Purple Line. Ridge Avenue and Sheridan Road handle the drive south, and several of the region's largest healthcare, education, and corporate employers never require the trip at all. Major employers within reach include:

  • Northwestern University (Evanston)
  • Endeavor Health (system headquarters in Evanston)
  • Rotary International (world headquarters in Evanston)
  • ZS (global headquarters in Evanston)
  • Northwestern Medicine (Chicago)
  • University of Chicago (Chicago)
  • Rush University System for Health (Chicago)
  • Chicago Public Schools (Chicago)
  • United Airlines (headquarters at Willis Tower, Chicago)
  • McDonald's Corporation (headquarters in Chicago's Fulton Market)
  • Mondelez International (headquarters in Chicago's Fulton Market)
  • Exelon (Chicago)
  • Motorola Solutions (Chicago)
  • Northern Trust (Chicago)
  • AbbVie (headquarters in nearby North Chicago)

Rotary International and ZS share One Rotary Center on Sherman Avenue, three minutes from Maple Grove's door, which makes them the shortest commute on this list.

At Maple Grove, the amenities are built around a downtown Evanston address where a car stays optional and the best view is upstairs:

Updated Rooftop Sundeck with Skyline and Lake Views
The roof deck was recently refreshed and looks south toward the Chicago skyline about 12 miles off, with Lake Michigan under a mile east. It is the space residents use for coffee before work and something colder after it. For an eight-story building with 70 homes, that outdoor square footage does a lot of work.

A Fitness Center and Laundry Center That Never Close
The fitness center and the laundry center both run 24 hours, and the laundry center matters here because apartments do not include in-unit washers and dryers. Residents also get 24-hour emergency maintenance and a package locker system that accepts deliveries seven days a week. The McGaw YMCA directly across the street adds a pool and courts for anyone who wants more than a treadmill.

Assigned Parking, Bicycle Storage, and EV Charging
Assigned lot and covered parking spaces are available, along with an electric car charging station. Bicycle storage sits inside the building, which is worth using at an address with a Bike Score of 89. An elevator and an electronic entry system serve all eight floors.

Two Pets Welcome in a Fully Smoke-Free Building
Up to two pets per home are welcome, subject to a 65-pound weight limit and breed restrictions, and Merrick Rose Garden is a three-minute walk west for the morning loop. The building is 100 percent smoke free throughout. Rent payments and service requests both run through an online resident portal.
